This policy brief aims to dismantle four pervasive assumptions hindering effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in the field of Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE). Drawing from the Dutch experience and international experience, the brief illuminates how these assumptions can be addressed to improve policy outcomes. It delves into challenges surrounding the measurability of prevention and non-events, the abstraction of key concepts, political sensitivities, and perceived time constraints.
